No special inoculations are required for travel to Turkey.

In cities and towns, medical care is readily available. Yet, in rural areas medical care, beyond routine first aid, is not. Pharmacies carry most of the drugs available at an American pharmacy, but you will need to know the generic name.

Please bring adequate amounts of prescription medications you might need. We can generally find good ‘over the counter’ type of drugs and even some prescription drugs for common ailments like analgesics, cold remedies, digestive upsets, vitamins and antibiotics. If you are sensitive to the sun, and if there is a certain brand of sun block, you may need to bring that. Also wide brimmed hats, even a parasol; the sun can be relentless. Yet sun block, lotion and moisturizers are widely available all around the country. Most sites have very little shade.

If you are prone to seasickness, bring a remedy that has worked for you in the past. Participants in past cruises have found the acupressure wrist bands quite effective. Insects are not a big problem in Turkey but we may moor at times where black flies will suddenly appear so if you are the irresistible type, you should buy insect repellent before you get on board. If you wear eyeglasses though, you should travel with an extra pair. You may not always be very close to an optician during the trip.
