Food & Water

There will be a future bulletin on ‘Food’, let it suffice to say here that you should feel comfortable eating in Turkey and need only follow the same common sense precautions you would follow at home. Food, its preparation and presentation, is very important in Turkey and restaurants at all level are extremely careful in its preparation.

Water is another matter. Tap water is not always safe to drink, and in many cases it will be over chlorinated, thus may not be good for your stomach even if it is hygienic. Bottled water will be available everywhere.  While bottled water is readily available it is wise to carry a bottle with you on some of our visits to archeological sites so you may want to bring an insulated canteen. You will be able to find bottled waters readily at any grocery store. In addition, fruit juices (we have many bottled varieties) and cold soft drinks are available at handy little kiosks. Ayran a traditional drink made of yoghurt, water, and salt is a wonderful bottled drink sold as a thirst quencher.
