Calling Turkey from the US is usually easy and reliable. And vice versa. Turkey is 7 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Savings Time.
Calling from Turkey to the US is quite easy especially if you use your telephone card. You simply place a local call to the access number given by your card company and follow the prompts.
Using a public telephone is just as easy; however, you will need to purchase a phone card from the PTT (post office) to use the phone. The local PTT is always prominently situated and can be identified by the bright yellow sign. The PTT phone cards come in various denominations. The one with the amount 100 will do for a number within Turkey but your charge for it will not resemble the 100 indicated on the card. Local numbers are 7 digits; calling other parts of Turkey requires 0 plus 10 digits (the 3 digit area code and the 7 digit local number).
Another option is to bring your cell phones to Turkey. The cell phone systems in Turkey and Europe is different than the U.S. Thus you should consult with your service provider for the correct equipment, as the frequency is different.
Mail:
Mail your POSTCARDS by airmail as early as possible to people back home as they take one to two weeks to arrive in the US.
